Lawn Aeration & Seeding

Aeration and Overseeding is essential to a thick and healthy lawn. The cooler weather and more consistent rain make Fall the best time to Aerate and Seed.  One may think that the Spring would be the most ideal time to Aerate and Seed, but this could actually hurt your lawn more than it helps.  Aeration in the spring can help create an easy place for crabgrass to grow and seed will not germinate if Crabgrass Preventer is applied, therefore making Fall the prime time to repair and make your lawn healthier and thicker with Core Aeration and Overseeding.

Lawn Aeration

Lawn Aeration is the removal of 2-6 inch plugs out of the turf.   When you remove plugs from the soil, your lawn naturally improves its aeration process.  When the soil beneath your grass is too compact, it cannot establish a healthy root system.  Water and fertilizer cannot reach the roots, which means you are wasting your time and money on both.  Eventually, your lawn grows slower, starts to thin out, and could even stop growing entirely.  Aeration will alleviate these issues.

  • Improved air circulation from atmosphere to the soil

  • Better fertilizer uptake and utilization

  • Better water absorption to roots

  • Improved cushioning and resilience to weight

Over Seeding

Another important aspect of fall Lawn Aeration is the Seeding. Seeding, after your lawn has been aerated, will increase the yield or amount of grass that will germinate. Seeding in the fall ensures your lawn is ready by spring. We only seed your lawn with Turf Type Tall Fescue mixes. These fescue mixes are engineered to help prevent drought, insects, and disease. Here in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Fall has the perfect cooler temperatures, plenty of rainfall and the longest germination period. Ideally, seeding should happen from mid-August to end-October.

  • Enhanced seed germination in aeration holes

  • Covers thin, worn areas and thickens existing turf

  • Better resistance to insect damage and turf disease

  • Reduced weed germination in weak areas
