Lawn Aeration, to put it simply, is making a hole in the ground. A plug of soil about ¾ inch wide and 2 inches to 6 inches deep is pulled out of your lawn. As basic as this may seem, it is one of the most important services that we perform. Soil in this area of the country is primarily hard, compacted clay. Lawn Aeration helps to loosen up the top few inches and allows the soil to “breathe”.
Lawn Aeration allows air, water and nutrients to get down to the grass roots where they can do the most good. The more those roots can stretch out the better the turf will be. Good root systems make for stronger, healthier grass plants that can more easily handle our hot, dry summers.
One of the other benefits of lawn aeration is the reduction of thatch. Poking a hole in the thatch helps it to move around and break down naturally so that it can’t choke the grass at the bottom. This can also greatly reduce the risk of disease in your lawn.
Our GREENSKEEPER DELUXE lawn care program includes lawn aeration during the FALL SERVICE in conjunction with over-seeding your lawn. The holes can act as a catch basin for seed, preventing them from washing away in heavy rainfall. The plugs left on top also act as a top dressing for that seed.
So, as you can see, this simple process can be very beneficial. At GREENSKEEPER, we feel that something that’s as good for your lawn as aeration should be a part of your regular lawn service, not an expensive extra. If GREENSKEEPER has any secret for its success, it may well be Lawn Aeration!
News Summer 2010: The summer of 2010 has been extremely taxing to most of our lawns, you may have dead areas due to the extreme heat and dry conditions. Many of us will need to re-seed these areas once the weather changes, a combination of aeration and seeding will bring most of the lawns in our area back to their original splendor.
We proudly serve Abington, Glenside, Willow Grove, Huntingdon Valley, and Jenkintown in Pennsylvania (PA).
